Guts over Fear

I am naturally a risk-averse individual. The reason being self-preservation.

Are highly successful people successful because they are willing to take more risks or fewer risks?

I think it’s human nature not to take unnecessary risks. Maybe I should say it is my nature to avoid unnecessary risks. The fear of the unknown can be crippling and impact how clearly one is able to analyze a situation.

There was a point in my life when everything scared me. I was afraid to say the wrong thing, make the wrong move, or make the wrong decision. In some cases, I found myself being indecisive simply because of fear.

Last year, I made the decision to switch companies. When I made this decision, I noted down why I needed to make the move. I knew what I wanted to achieve as I grew in my career, and I knew that I was willing to do the work necessary for this growth. Yet, I was crippled with fear.

The fear of “What if I get to this new place and hate it?” and “What if my new colleagues hate me?” and “What if I am unable to deliver?” and “What if the company goes bankrupt and I lose my job, and my previous company laughs at me?” (Yes, I have a very wild and active imagination, and when my mind runs wild, IT RUNS WILD!)

The problem wasn’t all the unknown answers; instead, it was the paradigm I held in my mind. I had noticed this problem years earlier and had made a promise to myself that whenever I felt that crippling fear, I would push forward and push harder.

I often wonder what the world would look like if people like myself were fearless. Is there a way to actively overcome the default of fear we hold within us? There are so many things that we think are impossible that become possible.

I was recently listening to Bob Proctor, and he talks about the subconscious mind and the conscious mind. The idea of the body being an extension of the mind is very powerful. There is infinite potential within us, but we discount ourselves for many reasons—fear being one of those reasons.

Every day, I work on dislodging the mindset of fear. My dream is to impact people’s lives by unlocking their full potential, and I believe I can achieve that. I believe that the ripple effect of this belief will change the world.

Whatever you believe, it is true. So, if you believe that you will fail, then it is true. If you believe you are not capable, then it is true. If this is the case, why not believe that the impossible is possible in a positive way?

Turn off the switch of fear. Take that risk knowing it may or may not work out in your favor but lean into the challenge anyway.

I promise myself that I will never let fear stop me from taking a chance on myself and my goals and aspirations. I hope you do the same for yourself too.
